About Sonja Raciti
Following completion of my undergraduate degree at Hawaii Pacific University, I went on to complete my graduate work and doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at Argosy University in San Francisco. I also specialized in forensic assessment and child maltreatment while completing a fellowship at Kapiolani Child Protection Center in Hawaii.
Learning about trauma and its effects on the human psyche in graduate school shortly after 9/11, caused me to be very interested in the military. I wanted to help those services member who were suffering from the remnants of the on-going War on Terror. In 2009 I joined the Hawaii Army National Guard as an officer and began working at Schofield Barracks as a department of the Army civilian psychologist. I began in child and family services and in 2012 I became the program director. I wanted to do more, and in 2013, I became an active duty Air Force officer and was assigned to Luke Air Force Base.
With a sad heart we left Hawaii and moved to the sunny city of Phoenix. Here at Luke I was blessed with being able to direct the Drug Treatment Program and I was able to expand the unit outreach program to include our sister services, the guard, and the reserves. I then took over our Family Advocacy Program, which provides voluntary preventative services for high-risk families and victims and mandatory treatment for perpetrators of abuse. I was able to revamp the outreach and prevention program doubling our effect. For domestic assault victims we began working with the Glendale police. This effort earned us a joint award from the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). In 2014, I was named Company Grade Officer of the year for our group and upon leaving the Air Force in 2016 I was given the Air Force Commendation Medal.
My family has fallen in love with all that Phoenix and its surrounding areas have to offer and we have decided to remain here. Continuing in my quest to serve my community, I have formed Healing Wounds, LLC and have begun private practice. I also teach as an adjunct professor at Grand Canyon University within their graduate Counseling Program. My husband and I, our two children, cranky little cat and one very large and well spoilt dog plan on residing here for the long duration. To schedule an appointment with me click here.
