About Sarah Bilodeau
I have international experience living and working abroad as a Dramatherapist, and I currently work in Shanghai, China, for The Essential Learning Group. For those who are unfamiliar with this practice, Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses creative mediums and psychological practices to assist individuals on their journey of healing and wellbeing.
I have been delivering therapy to children, adolescents and adults, on a 1:1, in groups and with families. Reasons that bring people to my door vary greatly, to mention a few, there may be psycho-social, emotional, behavioral needs, and/or difficulties with relationships, parenting, loss, transition, self-esteem, trauma and mental health. I also offer consultation and trainings for personal and professional development and I am registered with the UK’s Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
My master's thesis was on Inter-cultural Dramatherapy, which is an area that I continue to explore in my work. Prior to these studies, which I completed in the UK, I studied Psychology and Theatre and Development (aka Theatre for social change) in Canada.
In addition to these specialties, I have published for varied journals and projects, including an article for the British Association of Dramatherapists (BADth) journal on Art Therapy in Asia, and a column in a BADth newsletter on diversity. I co-authored multi-cultural guidelines with the North American Association of Dramatherapy (NADTA). I have also co-edited the book Drama Education and Dramatherapy by Dr. Clive Holmwood, the journal of CAET, a toolkit of strategies for teachers and a poetry magazine written by mental health patients.
I also like to travel in and around the places where I live, write poetry, compose and record with musicians, paint, and do many other creative activities. Spending time with my loved ones is also very important for me and deepening my curiosity in the many subjects that interest me.
