About Kurt Chacon

I am a divorce coach and collaborative divorce attorney.

In 2010 I changed the focus of my practice to collaborative family law, in part because of my own divorce, and in part because I discovered there are lawyers practicing collaborative family law who do not fully understand or embrace the process. I discovered this because my wife and I chose the collaborative law process. The process I experienced in my own collaborative divorce was not the process I have come to study, learn and embrace. I am a member of both the Collaborative Law and Family Law Sections of the State Bar of Texas. I am also a member of the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas (CLI-TX). I have completed basic, intermediate and advanced training through CLI-TX. I also have trial experience in family law- temporary hearings, contempt and modifications, and trial on the merits.

I’ve been a member of the State bar of Texas since 1982. I have practiced personal injury trial law in both the plaintiff and defense bar in both state and Federal courts. I have trial experience in personal injury, products liability, workmen’s compensation, wrongful death, occupational disease and medical malpractice.

I am a native Texan, born in Port Arthur and raised in Groves. I attended Port Neches Groves HS and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Government with Honors in 1979. I graduated from The University of Texas Law School in 1982. I have lived in Dallas since 1986. I have two children, Isabella and Evan. I am a Stephens Minister at Woodcreek
Church in Richardson.
